Learn to Weave the SAORI Way with Denise Prince

  • Oatlant Island Wildlife Center 711 Sandtown Road Savannah, GA, 31410 United States (map)

SAORI Workshops are for EVERYONE! Whether you have never woven, are a new weaver, or have been weaving for years SAORI has something to offer you! Often described as “Painting with Yarn” this free-form weaving style was born in Japan in the early 1960s when Misao Jo missed a dent in her reed. As she wove an unintended pattern developed that she found pleasing.

Today, SAORI can be found around the world as weavers of all ages and abilities find the joy of weaving from the heart and embracing the perfectly imperfect. Denise brings floor looms fully warped, makes certain that everyone knows how to use the loom, and then the fun begins! In SAORI weaving we generally do not start weaving with an end use in mind. In fact, Kenzo Jo, the President of SAORI Japan, often says, "Do not weave for clothing. Just weave." So our weaving in both workshops will not be project based.
