Taste of...Core Spinning

  • Oatland Island Wildlife Center 711 Sandtown Road Savannah, GA 31410 (map)

Tamar Duran  was born in Venezuela and works as a paramedic. She has been knitting and crocheting for years. She spins on both the Turkish spindle and the wheel and is an advanced yarn prep and spinning expert.

Core spinning is a set of techniques involving  different ways to design and create  textured and colorful yarn, based on using a "core" yarn.  You will learn how to spin other fibers onto the core yarn. These yarns are suitable for jewelry, knitting, weaving and rug making. Beginners are welcome, but you need to know how to spin a stable single and ply.  You need to bring a wheel with an orifice large enough to accommodate a bulky weight yarn.

Please bring a spool of sewing thread, a small skein of fingering or lace weight mohair or crochet cotton (or both) for your core yarn, plus an ounce or two of a small art batt and/or rovin
