Basketry Workshop with Kim Keats

Weave a rib-style basket with Kim Keats and learn different techniques and materials usage. Participants will learn how to construct a rib form that can be a vessel or sculpture. Techniques include simple tabby weaving, twining, and random weaving. Kim will provide materials including rattan, palmetto roots, and poplar bark. Participants are encouraged to bring optional materials including fabrics and yarn. $30 for members, $35 for nonmembers. Bring a beverage and lunch. The class will be held in the Oatland Science room.

Kim holds a BFA from Augusta State University, pursued graduate studies in Fibers at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, and received an MFA in Sculpture from Georgia Southern University. Kim’s work has been featured in galleries and museums throughout the south. Ms. Keats currently teaches at The University of South Carolina Beaufort and at the Savannah Academy of Arts and Design.
